Khadīja bint Khuwaylidرضي الله عنهاخَدِيجَة
Also known as Khadijah, Khadija
A merchant of Banū Asad of Quraysh who employed the Prophet ﷺ in her trade, then proposed marriage to him, about fifteen years before the revelation. She remained his only wife until her death, and bore all his children except Ibrāhīm. When the first revelation came she steadied him and took him to her cousin Waraqa (Bukhārī); she was the first to believe in him. Jibrīl brought her Allah's greeting and the promise of a house in Paradise (Bukhārī). She died in the Year of Sorrow, before the Hijra.
Of uncertain origin; the lexicographers connect it to a root meaning 'born before term'.
Umm al-Muʾminīn — Mother of the Believers, as the Qurʼan names the Prophet's ﷺ wives (33:6)
