About

Daughter of ʿUmar and a Mother of the Believers (33:6). Widowed at Badr, she was then married to the Prophet ﷺ in Madīna. She could read and write, and it was in her keeping that the written collection of the Qurʼan, gathered under Abū Bakr, was preserved; ʿUthmān later borrowed those sheets to make the copies sent to the cities, and returned them to her (Bukhārī).
