Āmina bint Wahbآمِنَة

Also known as Aminah, Amina

About

The mother of the Prophet ﷺ, of Banū Zuhra of Quraysh. Her husband ʿAbdullāh died on a trading journey before, by the majority report, their son was born. When the boy was about six she took him to Yathrib and died at al-Abwāʾ on the road home, leaving him an orphan in his grandfather's care. A ṣaḥīḥ hadith records that the Prophet ﷺ later visited her grave and wept, and those with him wept too (Muslim).

The name

From the root of amn, safety and security: 'she who is safe, secure'.
