Quṣayy ibn Kilābقُصَيّ
Also known as Qusay, Zayd ibn Kilab
Son of Kilāb and father of ʿAbd Manāf, the ancestor who made Quraysh masters of Makkah. His given name was Zayd. Raised in Syria after his mother remarried, he returned to Makkah, gathered the scattered clans of Quraysh into the city, and took charge of the Kaʿbah and the offices of hospitality to the pilgrims, which earned him the byname Mujammiʿ, 'the gatherer'. He built Dār al-Nadwa, the council house where Quraysh met. Through his son ʿAbd Manāf the line continues to Hāshim.
From qaṣiyy, 'far away'; the genealogists say he was so called because he was raised far from his people, in Syria.
