Not the prophet Ilyās, but an ancestor of the Prophet ﷺ who shares his name: the son of Muḍar and father of Mudrika, in the line between Nizār and Khuzayma. The genealogists place him as the link through whom the Prophet's ﷺ descent passes from Muḍar toward Kināna and Quraysh; beyond that, little of his life is recorded in the sīrah, and the name is all that joins him to the prophet of the Qurʼan.
The name
Spelled like the prophet Ilyās's name, the Arabic form of Elijah; some genealogists read it al-Yās, from yaʾs, a native Arabic name.
