Fihr ibn Mālikفِهْر
Also known as Quraysh, Fihr
About
Son of Mālik ibn al-Naḍr and father of Ghālib, widely identified by the genealogists as Quraysh himself, the eponym of the tribe. On that view everyone descended from Fihr is a Qurashī, and those of Kināna outside his line are not; the alternative view traces the name to his grandfather al-Naḍr. Either way, the Prophet's ﷺ line passes through him, and the clans of Quraysh in Makkah count their descent from him.
The name
Fihr is a smooth stone that fills the hand, used for grinding.
Quraysh — the tribe's eponym by most genealogists; the derivation of 'Quraysh' itself is disputed
