About
The only Companion named in the Qurʼan (33:37). Taken captive as a boy, tradition tells, he was given to Khadīja, who gave him to the Prophet ﷺ; when his father came to ransom him he chose to stay. Freed and taken as a son, he was called Zayd ibn Muḥammad until 33:5 ended adoptive naming (Bukhārī). He married Zaynab bint Jaḥsh and later divorced her. He commanded the Muslim army at Muʾta and was killed there; the Prophet ﷺ announced his death with tears (Bukhārī).
