About
Son of Maʿadd and father of Muḍar, standing in the Prophet's ﷺ line between ʿAdnān and the founders of Quraysh. His sons Muḍar and Rabīʿa are the eponyms of the two great tribal groupings of the Northern Arabs, and the genealogists reckon most ʿAdnānī tribes to one or the other. The Prophet's ﷺ descent runs through Muḍar. Beyond his place in the chain, little about his life is remembered.
The name
From nazr, 'little'; tradition says his father, rejoicing at his birth, called a lavish feast 'little' beside the child.
