About
Son of Ghālib and father of Kaʿb, in the Prophet's ﷺ line between Fihr and the generations that shaped Quraysh in Makkah. The genealogists know him chiefly as a name in the chain: the father of Kaʿb, whose Friday gatherings tradition remembers, and an ancestor shared by several clans of Quraysh, Banū Hāshim among them. Beyond that, the sīrah records little of his life.
The name
A diminutive form; the lexicographers connect it to laʾy, 'a wild ox'.
