About
Son of Mudrika and father of Kināna, a link in the Prophet's ﷺ line between Ilyās ibn Muḍar and the founders of Quraysh. The sīrah preserves little about him beyond his name and his place in the chain: the genealogists record him as the father of Kināna, whose descendants the Prophet ﷺ named among those Allah chose, and as the ancestor of the tribes that carry his name, Banū Khuzayma.
The name
A diminutive form; the lexicographers connect it to khuzāmā, a fragrant desert plant, wild lavender.
