About
A prophet of the Children of Israel who called his people away from the idol Baʿl to the worship of Allah alone. The Qur'an counts him among the righteous and sends peace upon him.

The story, as the Qurʼan tells it
- The beginningHis people, who called upon the idol Baʿl and abandoned the best of creators.
37:123-126
وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
- The callWill you not fear Allah? Do you call on Baʿl and forsake Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?
37:124-126
إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
- The testThey denied him.
37:127
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ
- The outcomeAllah left him a good name among later generations: 'Peace upon Ilyāsīn.'
37:129-130
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ
The lessonThe deniers will be brought forth, but the sincere servants of Allah are honoured for all time. 37:127-132
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ
