About
Son of Kināna and father of Mālik, in the Prophet's ﷺ line two generations above Fihr. The genealogists differ over the name Quraysh: some hold that al-Naḍr was the first to bear it, so that all his descendants are Quraysh, while others give it to his grandson Fihr, and the second view is the more widely followed. Some genealogists report his given name as Qays, with al-Naḍr, 'the radiant', as a byname.
The name
From naḍāra, 'brightness, freshness': 'the radiant'; some genealogists give his given name as Qays.
