About
The younger grandson of the Prophet ﷺ, son of ʿAlī and Fāṭima. The Prophet ﷺ said of him and his brother, 'Ḥasan and Ḥusayn are the two chiefs of the youth of Paradise' (Tirmidhī, graded ṣaḥīḥ by many). He was killed at Karbalāʾ in 61 AH together with members of his family, a loss the whole Muslim community mourns. Through him, as through al-Ḥasan, the Prophet's ﷺ line continues.
The name
A diminutive of Ḥasan, 'little Ḥasan'; the Prophet ﷺ named him, by tradition.
Abū ʿAbdullāh — father of ʿAbdullāh, his kunya
