About
The elder grandson of the Prophet ﷺ, son of ʿAlī and Fāṭima. The Prophet ﷺ named him, and once carried him onto the minbar and said, 'This son of mine is a sayyid, and perhaps Allah will reconcile two great parties of Muslims through him' (Bukhārī). That came to pass when he made peace with Muʿāwiya, laying down the leadership to end the fighting between Muslims. He and his brother are 'the two chiefs of the youth of Paradise' (Tirmidhī). He resembled the Prophet ﷺ in appearance.
The name
